AS stories seeks to collect and share biographies from those with Aspergers syndrome.
Many websites offer information and forums for those on the autistic spectrum Aspergers Syndrome links but in the absence of a site dedicated to personal stories, AS stories took shape after the death of Finn Higgins.
Finn killed himself on February 11th 2008 at Mount Victoria, Wellington, New Zealand aged 26.
He is one of many young people with Aspergers syndrome whose early death, through suicide, has devastated their families and friends.
Depression can accompany Aspergers syndrome. It may be more of a problem than the Asperger characteristics and lead to thoughts of suicide. Many struggle to visualise a positive future .The experiences and suggestions of those with Aspergers who, despite its difficulties, enjoy a good quality of life may assist others .
Although awareness is growing of the breadth and variety of Asperger characteristics there is still limited understanding in society of the wide range of abilities within the Autistic Spectrum.
Health and Education workers need to hear personal accounts from those with Aspergers who are able to live independently despite difficulties with work/ social / sensory issues.
Submitting biographies will help illustrate the huge variety of experiences and prove useful in educating others.
Please help by submitting your stories and suggestions.
A similar format and length to stories already on the site would be appreciated.
In the interests of promoting greater understanding of Aspergers syndrome please pass details of this site to anyone with an interest in this area.
